Fieke Nijland is Vice President Legal at Emirates Shipping FZE, where she leads the legal function. Emirates Shipping Line (ESL) is a Dubai-headquartered container shipping line established in 2006, with a presence in 31 countries, providing tailor-made customer solutions by leveraging its strategic positioning across the dynamic markets of Asia, the Indian Subcontinent, the Middle East, the Red Sea and East Mediterranean, Africa, and the Americas.

Based in Dubai, she brings more than 20 years of multinational in-house experience in shipping and commodity trading, spanning multijurisdictional corporate transactions, commercial contracts, asset financing, joint ventures, and dispute resolution. Her expertise covers maritime law, commodity trading, asset financing, charter parties, LNG, LPG, dry bulk and container shipping, offshore and EPC contracts, shipbuilding, ship repair and modification, joint ventures, insurance, and corporate and commercial law.

Prior to joining Emirates Shipping FZE, Fieke served as Senior Legal Counsel at P&O Maritime Logistics (DP World Group), where she drafted and negotiated time and bareboat charter parties for offshore vessels, shipbuilding and ship repair contracts, port services agreements, and vessel sale and purchase transactions. Earlier, over nearly seven years with Qatar Gas Transport Company (Nakilat) – one of the world’s largest LNG fleet owners and owner of Qatar Shipyard Solutions – she advised on LNG and LPG charter parties, EPC and offshore construction contracts, ship building and ship repair, joint ventures, and major financing transactions. Her earlier career included roles as Legal Counsel at Dana Shipping & Trading in Piraeus and at agricultural commodity trader Nidera BV in Rotterdam, where she managed arbitrations under GAFTA, FOSFA, and LMAA.

Fieke holds an LLM in Commercial Law and an LLB, both from Erasmus University, Rotterdam.
